An interesting snippet from the USA, via Iconoculture: in their Q1 2008 survey, residential architects (www.AIA.org) reported a decline in home sizes. Why? The reasons cited include the economic downturn, population shifts and increased environmental awareness.
Iconoculture claims that home goods retailers are starting to respond. For example, furniture giant's Pottery Barn's "Small Spaces" collection is in great demand. Luxury kitchen appliance makers are also making smaller versions for smaller spaces.
