It's a woman's world
It's a woman's world
Interesting stats collected by the she-conomy blog about the growing economic power of women in the US: over the next decade, women will control two thirds of consumer wealth in the United States and be the beneficiaries of the largest transference of wealth in the country’s history. Estimates range from $12 to $40 trillion. Many Boomer women will experience a double inheritance windfall, from both parents and husband.
Already, American women spend about $5 trillion annually, over half the US GDP, and account for 85% of all consumer purchases:
93% of food
93% of OTC pharmaceuticals
92% of vacations
91% of new homes
89% of bank accounts
80% of healthcare
66% of PCs
65% of new cars
The statistics also suggest that that marketers have some work to do to understand their motivations. One survey suggests that as many as 91% of women said that advertisers don’t understand them, and:
84% feel misunderstood by investment marketers
74% feel misunderstood by automotive marketers
66% feel misunderstood by health care marketers
59% of women feel misunderstood by food marketers
